Storm is all about superb quality, offering haircuts, highlights, colour, toner, and styling. Perms are a big no-go and trashy trends are vetoed. This salon is all about clean excellence. When so many salons feel more stressful and transitional than the streets of the cities they occupy, Storm presents itself as a place of permanence, stability and peace. Its name becomes oddly ironic, as entering the salon really does feel like entering the eye of the storm.
I arrived on a weekday, after work, looking for a simple trim. Not expecting to be there long, I was greeted warmly by Lisa, Storm’s owner. With beaming smiles all around from the staff, the salon, with its tranquil design and superb, spacious layout, felt like a breath of fresh air after the rush-hour busyness outside.
After my gentle greeting, I was taken to the changing area where I got up and moved to my salon chair. My stylist, Thomasina, walked me through my hair needs (a simple trim, trying to keep the length, of course) and offered expert advice based on its condition.
After washing my hair with Aveda products, we began the trim, which she did adeptly and quickly, removing the minimal amount that I asked for. Our conversation was rich and interjected with useful hints and tips on how to maintain my hair quality. Clearly a knowledgeable stylist, she told me about the history of Storm and how the salon invests in, and looks after its staff.
She blow-dried my hair with a Dyson styler, which I’d never experienced yet, and was glad to see such superb equipment at a salon. Within less than 45 minutes, my hair was clean cut and dry, bouncy and luscious, looking significantly healthier than it had on arrival. With a classic trim done to meticulous standards, Storm delivered on its premium promise.
Living in the neighbourhood, I know for sure that I will be returning to Storm for my regular haircut and blow dry. It’s reassuring to know that there is such a peaceful and trusty place to escape to for all my hair needs.
