Sri Panwa

by Lady Charlotte Lynham

Sri Panwa is one of the top properties in Thailand, perched high atop Cape Panwa and commanding breathtaking views of the Southeastern tip of Phuket, occupying the Cape Panwa peninsula in its entirety. The villas sit 40-60 meters above sea level along the Eastern and Western ridges at the very tip of the cape, commanding breathtaking views of the surrounding islands and Andaman Sea. Their villas offer panoramic ocean views, while some boast full and uninterrupted 300-degree ocean views.

The interiors embrace the essence of Tropical Contemporary design by integrating its natural jungle and ocean surroundings with the modern comforts of luxury living. The villas are designed to feel like private homes, incorporating the finest bed linens, customised toiletries, gourmet mini-bars and traditional handcrafted furnishings. Our Penthouse commanded unparalleled views of the Andaman Ocean and was made up of 140 square metres of refined living space as well as a private infinity pool to enjoy the sunset views. I loved the fact we also had a dining area, living area and a full fridge (with complimentary soft drinks, snacks and chocolate) and kitchen space so we could chill in the suite and make use of our beautiful surroundings. Many an evening was spent, cocktail in hand, lazing in our infinity pool watching the sunset and the stars appear and light up the sky like a glitter ball. The site on first encounter seems vast, as Sri Panwa Tuk-Tuk’s whizz you around the complex, however most of the facilities are walking distance, except Baba Nest! Worth checking out are Baba Poolclub which is home to many different areas of entertainment and dining. Sprawled across 5,000 square meters, it has a little something for everyone. The indoor/outdoor building features a 25-meter infinity-edge lap pool, Pool Bar, BaBaQ Dining, Baba88 Disco, Baba Space for meetings/functions, a Game Room and Yaya Boutique. The Poolclub is where most guests hang out during the day when not chilling in their own villas. Great for dinner is the signature Baba Soul Food that offers an intimate Thai dining experience with stunning sunset views. Our dinner here was a wonderful experience, eating homely Thai food while looking out across the remnants of the sunset. Our favourite dishes were the Yam Ped Krob, a hot spicy duck salad that is not for the faint hearted and the Poo Nim Phad Prik Thai Dam, a Phuket delicacy of deep fried soft shell crab with black pepper sauce, succulent, crispy and spicy – what’s not to like? Baba Soul Food is where we also took breakfast on one of the mornings and the selection is equally as impressive with foods from British classics to Asian alternatives available, they even made me a very tasty bowl of porridge with coconut milk: Scotland meets Thailand in a bowl. Our Penthouse was located at the Habita, which houses the new Pool Suites and Penthouses. The super wow factor of this building is the Olympic size forest waterfall pool enveloped within a perfectly landscaped water garden. Another highlight of this new phase is the beautifully designed roof in the shape of a leaf that blends in with the natural surroundings. Nestled under this roof is Baba Shishi Lounge that serves fabulous cocktails and equally fabulous sunsets! If you want to get in before the crowd though be sure to book. Lastly, and probably one of the most impressive places I have ever drunk an Espresso Martini is Baba Nest.  Baba Nest is one of the World’s most stylish and exclusive rooftop bar serving Sri Panwa’s delicious cocktails, alongside the sexiest sunset sessions. Baba Nest’s wrap around infinity pool surrounds the rooftop deck overlooking 360° panoramic views of the surrounding islands, Andaman Sea and Phuket’s Southeastern peninsula. When in Phuket, Baba Nest is a must visit, whether staying at Sri Panwa or not BUT advance reservation is required as this is one hot spot and it’s easy to see why with the most incredible and eye watering views of Phuket and the surrounding islands.Sri Panwa’s facilities also feature a fully equipped fitness centre and gym, boxing ring, two tennis courts and a team of private tennis, yoga, pilates and fitness instructors on standby every day. Another lovely feature is the private beach and pier that offer easy yachting access for island hopping, ocean cruising or like us a spot of sea kayaking, whilst the stunning Beach Pool is perfect for sunbathing, lounging or an impromptu cocktail party. We thoroughly enjoyed our rather lame attempt at sea kayaking which is much more hard work than it looks. Good way to work off the calories from all the great food on offer at Sri Panwa though!

All in all this resort has it all, you could literally live here, and I wish I did! The suites are unreal, the food offerings are immense, and they have one of the best views in Thailand from Baba Nest and you can work out or kick back in numerous outlets on site or in your own suite while being waited on hand and foot by the staff; Sri Panwa = Shangri La!
