With solid views over the city and spacious living and working spaces, the Hyatt House Hotel on Manchester Oxford Road is much more than just a hotel. A complimentary breakfast, 24/7 gym, and rooms with a fully equipped kitchen mean you can live and work from complete luxury in the city centre. I spent the night at Hyatt House to experience a home away from home.
Located on a peaceful square within easy access to the city centre the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Hyatt House apartments occupy the same solid, towering structure which looks over the city. Residents and guests are greeted by lovely staff who are happy to help you and guide you around the hotel and the incredible ground floor.
Stretching through the length of the hotel, the lobby is home to the Graduate bar as well as the Laureate restaurant and seating areas, making it a comfortable and stylish place to dine, or just watch the world go by with a good book and a hot drink.
The residents have a different lift to the main hotel and I was up on the 16th floor and eager to see the view. With 55 sq m of space, the Hyatt’s suites offer spectacular views over the city skyline. The interior contains a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom (including, bath, shower and toiletries), a fully equipped chic, modern kitchen, dining table, and a spacious living area with a sofa bed.
There are also extras such as an espresso machine, 2 smart TVs, a safe, air-con and robes that just add that touch of luxury and comfort to an experience that you’d expect from the Hyatt brand. Guests can also enjoy unlimited, 24-hour access to complimentary laundry facilities, daily complimentary breakfast, and 24-hour access to a large gym and on-site pantry.
After relaxing in our room with a bottle of wine and some old-school R&B, we put on our dresses and heels and headed down to The Laureate Restaurant where guests can dine in opulent surroundings of floor-to-ceiling windows and richly upholstered banquettes.
The barman was waiting with his recommendations for a cocktail of the day, as Chinese New Year was being celebrated a few streets away he had come up with two cocktails to celebrate the year of the tiger: a Lychee Martini or a Dragon Fruit Caipirinha. We both went for the Lychee Martini and were told the chefs had prepared a mixed plate of canapes for us to nibble whilst browsing the menu.
A warm plate of Gochujang chicken skewers, salt and pepper squid and falafel with a yoghurt and mint dip was devoured with enthusiasm and we promptly sent compliments to the chefs. The Martinis went down just as quickly.
The à la carte menu is full of British restaurant classics using seasonal ingredients from perfectly balanced signature dishes to outstandingly good authentic brick-oven-cooked pizzas. Our waiter Akira raved about the food and suggested we get whatever we fancied as it was guaranteed to delight.
With such high praise I thought I’d treat myself to a 6oz Fillet steak with fries and the chef was kind enough to accommodate broccoli spears instead of mushrooms. Cooked slightly over what I would call rare, the meat was tender and ever so juicy and the fries were salty, flavoursome and moorish just as chips should be!
Not a fan of red, we washed down our steaks with a solid bottle of Vavasour Sauvignon Blanc which paired beautifully with the coconut and lime panna cotta we ordered for dessert and was the perfect accompaniment to an enjoyable evening in a chic and relaxed setting.
After a solid night’s sleep (the room was completely silent with solid blackout curtains, exactly how it should be) it was wonderful to wake up to the floor-to-ceiling view of the sunrise over Manchester. After a hot shower and a quick espresso, we headed down to breakfast where we were quite literally spoilt for choice.
The breakfast was buffet style with a vast selection of hot and cold food from croissants, fruits and cereals to all the elements of a full English. A selection of fresh fruit juices and hot drinks were also available to help yourself to in case you’d like to take away your breakfast to have at your desk or dine in the tranquil restaurant. Stay, work or play in solid comfort at Hyatt House in Manchester and enjoy wonderful service, fantastic food and opulent surroundings.
