With just a short elevator ride down from our Suite, Eisbär and I headed for the spa in our comfy white toweling robes. After checking in at the spa reception we chilled in the relaxation area where you can enjoy fresh seasonal fruit, light snacks and a selection of teas either before or after your treatment, we decided to indulge in a green while waiting for our therapists. Eisbär and I were to experience the Swedish massage, a massage designed to relieve aching muscles, stimulate circulation and eliminate toxins with a traditional full body massage. Six Senses signature massage therapies are designed with your specific needs in mind grounded on detox, energizer, holistic and oriental philosophies, so there is a wide range of massages to choose from dependent on your needs. Eisbär and I were to have our massages separately but you can request to have your therapy in the Cave Room that is specifically designed for couple treatments.Leaving the relaxation room I was taken to my therapy room where my therapist asked me to lay down on my front on the therapy bed, having already specified on my treatment form the aches, pains and concerns my therapist was already prepped to give me the best massage for my particular needs. She extensively worked on my upper back, shoulders and then thigh muscles, these were particular tight and in need of a vigorous kneading (probably from all the slave driving to learn to Ski from Eisbär!). The room is dimly lite and the music of Asian influence, while laying there inhaling the essential oils you drift off in to a half sleep, conscious of where you are but mind wandering to a more peaceful plain. I swear the massage flew by in terms of time but I suspect this was down to the sheer level of relaxation leading to loss of all concept of time. Groggy and half blinded as my pupils reacted to the light again I made my way back to relaxation area where Eisbär was already installed. Like two limpets we just sat there in our robes completely spaced out, evidentially Eisbär had also been massaged in to nirvana. Luckily our Suite was only a short elevator ride away, and thank god as these two spa zombies, smiling like two cats that had got the cream, were in dire need of some zzz’s.Six Senses Spa at The Alpina Gstaad is a great oasis away from the fast paced slopes, just take my advice and do not plan anything for your afternoon after visiting the spa for you will be otherwise engaged . . . on cloud nine.
