After a relaxing weekend in the Surrey hills there really is no better way to eased back into the hustle and bustle of city life by visiting one of central London’s most famous five star hotels for the night, that Hotel was the perfectly positioned Jumeirah Carlton Tower just off Sloane street in Knightsbridge.
Our Taxi pulled up to the hotel entrance where we were immediately welcomed by the very dapper and traditionally dressed doorman who showed us through to reception, from here we were taken straight up to our home for the night, the Chesham suite on the 11th floor one of the 58 suites and 216 rooms housed in this hotel.
Rather than a suite it felt more like a luxury London apartment, if it had a kitchen I would have moved in there and then. The Chesham suite is situated on the corner of the building with stunning views over Cadogan place and south London and west to Knightsbridge and beyond.Once on the comfy Astro Turfed balcony one gets a fantastic 270° view of the London skyline. What was quite remarkable, especially having just been in the peacefully quiet countryside was how silent it was in our suite; the windows must have been triple, quadruple or quintuple glazed! The only sounds that could make it through the thick glass were the dull growls of the supercars as their owners, like peacocks ponced up and down Sloane Street, which of course had us guessing the supercar by sound and rushing to the balcony for confirmation, there are enough of them that by the end we had it down pat.
The marble bathroom was gorgeous and bigger than many London apartments, the bath was decadence itself with massaging jets and a TV embedded into the wall. With twin sinks, giant mirrors, good lighting, rainfall shower and endless Roja Dove toiletries it really was the perfect place to ‘scrub up’ before a night out in Knightsbridge. Of course like every great suite it had a fabulous mirrored mini bar area with all of the usual culprits and perfume or aftershave for the unprepared among us.As for the bedroom the thick curtains dropped us into total darkness once pulled and the bed was surprisingly high, which made one feel like a kid climbing into bed; but once tucked up there was no stopping us from having a long and very, very deep restful sleep. Maybe a small feature to some but we loved the area specific air conditioning, one seemed to be able to set temperatures and air-con for each room or area of the suite, great touch.
In the morning and purely in the name of decadence we opted for breakfast in the room. Twenty minutes later, breakfast with all of the trimmings were ready and waiting on a genius portable table with warming oven hidden underneath. What a perfect way to start the day, to be able to stumble out of bed straight for the breakfast table.Sadly we did not get to experience, but apparently the Jumeirah boast a Golf simulator where one can play on 30 of the world’s greatest courses, a 20 metres indoor pool and the very exclusive Peak Health Club & Spa. The Jumeirah also has three restaurants and private dining too. However, the ‘pièce de résistance’ is the award winning Rib Room Bar & Restaurant which really is well worth a visit.
The Jumeirah really is well positioned in the heart of Knightsbridge with all the luxury shopping you could ever want in Sloane street’s boutiques or just a stone’s throw away at Harrods and Harvey Nichols. As for the rest of London’s delights they are just a short taxi ride away. If you are ever in London and want the perfect location combined with a luxury apartment that could be home from home then you need look no further than The Jumeirah Carlton Tower in Knightsbridge.
