Where is Hotel Nhow London
Nhow London is located on City Road in the trendy area between Hoxton, Islington and Shoreditch. Only minutes away from ‘Silicon Roundabout’ – the high-tech hub around Old Street. The hotel’s location offers travel to all London’s main attractions via public transport: you have nearby Farringdon Station; bus stops a few steps away from the front door and the helpful reception staff can always call you a taxi too! It is not walkable to the top attractions so bear this in mind when planning your outings.
Style of Hotel Nhow London
The outside of the hotel is not remarkable but once inside it’s trendy chic and very Instagramable with neon sings and funky art features. The decor is unique and fun with many photo opportunities all over the hotel! It is both cosy and eclectic, think graffiti, a 30ft rocket ship Big Ben and bright colours. Nhow London is part of the wider NH hotel group which you may have heard of and who also own Anantara hotels. NHow is a small chain of hotels in Europe that are design-led and highly focused on local art. The hotel has been designed under the theme ‘London Reloaded’ by Project Orang – a bold modern celebration of traditional British icons, such as London landmarks, the Royal Family and the underground, London is definitely calling!
Staying at Hotel Nhow London
We arrived at the hotel in a taxi from London Bridge station and walked into the funky lobby to see the restaurant to the left and check in on the right-hand side, it’s an open-plan design. There is a strong incense-style smell as you walk in, I think this could be calmed down a bit as it does hit you every time you come out of the lift or walk into the lobby! Tamin checked us in, unfortunately, the free water in reception had run out but we had 2 lovely cold waters in our room which were most welcome after our travel.
The lift has a feature that is very safe and secure – you must tap your room key when travelling to the room floors before you press your floor number. We adored the front door-like room entrances which were apparently inspired by Notting Hill. The room we stayed in was on the 6th floor and had the same funky style of the lobby with fun art features and lights shaped like a bowler hat and dogs! The only downfall in the room would be we were not convinced the industrial-lit concrete ceiling fit well with the rest of the room decor and there was a severe lack of drawer space for our two-night stay, there is one cupboard and 8 hangers but it would have been nice to put some items in drawers.
The bathroom amenities were good full-sized products which were filled up during our stay and a lovely rain shower that was used many times as it was glorious! The room was kept clean and fresh towels were no problem when we needed a few more. There is also a feature where you can opt out of the cleaning service for a day and get a free drink! There are tea and coffee facilities in the room, a proper bar kit with a cocktail shaker, measure and ice bucket alongside some nice cut-crystal glasses, a huge flat-screen TV, a desk for writing with pad and pencil, fun flip-flop style slippers and comfy robes to relax in.
There is a large well-equipped modern gym in the basement along with meeting rooms. There are also Brompton bikes available for use. We however used the bus stop a few steps away from the Hotel on the Saturday morning and visited Hoxton market for a walk about. We then visited the Museum of The Home which was a fascinating look into what you call “home”. We found a lovely Turkish café and had a stunning meal freshly cooked by our friendly hosts who were happy to talk to us. In the evening we went to the West End to see Crazy for You which is a fun old school style musical, we travelled back to the hotel via taxi outside the theatre, the driver had not been to the hotel before so we did give some help with directions!
Food & Beverage at Hotel Nhow London
There is one restaurant area which is used for evening dining and breakfast, the breakfast buffet is a plethora of food laid out from a hot buffet to fresh fruit and the option of freshly cooked omelettes, a real hearty start to your morning. Pamela who looked after us in the morning was pure joy and happiness – a lovely way to be greeted.
For dining in the evening, if you like vibe dining Guilty by Olivier serves your food with a loud DJ, where there is a dance floor in the middle of the restaurant. It felt like it was not sure what nature it wanted to be with starters ranging from Carpaccio to Nachos and mains of burgers, pizza and pasta with lots of cheese on every dish. The menu was not thrilling and the music was way too loud to have a discussion. Definitely a different concept to any other restaurant we have eaten in while staying at a boutique hotel.
You can have room service as well which can be ordered via an app (scan the QR code in your room) or over the Bakelite phone in the room, but we were disappointed to see our neighbour had left their tray out in the morning and when we got back from the theatre that evening it was still sitting there!
The bar makes lovely fresh cocktails: the mojito was divine and has a few beers on tap and a good wine list available while dining or sitting at the bright modern bar or even relaxing on the sofas in the lobby in the fireplace corner.
Why visit Hotel Nhow London
The prices are very reasonable for a luxury experience and the staff on reception are friendly and a credit to the Nhow brand. It is an original hotel with different details and was nice to experience a new part of London to the usual central locations. The room was quiet with a comfy bed with a good number of pillows and a great-sized bathroom with a stunning shower. There is good free Wi-Fi all over the hotel and the main communal area has plenty of places to sit and relax. Breakfast also was great with plenty of choice and high-quality ingredients. So make it a new London thing with a unique stay at Nhow London.
