The moment I walked through the entrance of the grand Hotel du Vin in Royal Tunbridge Wells, I knew I was going to be in for a wondrous experience. The hotel is set in one of the historic spa town’s architectural landmarks, a Grade II-listed sandstone mansion built as a private residence in 1762. I spent an enjoyable time there to experience the architecturally delightful building that has hosted many Royal visitors such as Princess Victoria and Princess Amelia.
It is in prime location for visiting the sights of the town by foot. Royal Tunbridge Wells is a large Town and Borough in West Kent, England, about 40 miles south-east of central London. The Tunbridge Wells area lies at the heart of one of the most scenic stretches of countryside in England surrounded by the unspoilt beauty of the Weald. It is home to a wealth of places to visit, it is great for a country weekend away with things to see, do and explore, great shopping and awide selection of high quality places to eat and stay. There are two theatres and historical sites such as the Chalybeate Spring and High Rocks.After getting my room key as I checked in I was escorted up to my room by the receptionist on duty and shown the amenities of the room – including a coffee machine to die for! I settled into my room and took a look around to my home for the night.
The room I had was named The Pommery (all rooms are named after Champagne) with great views of Calverley Park and beautifully decorated to fit the quality of the hotel. Each room has been designed with luxury in mind, whether you are staying for one night or more you will find the rooms suitable for your needs.
The washroom was of a large size, with a walk in shower and free-standing roll top bath, the wash are has a phone which is handy for calling up reception for extra amenities if needed!

Items given for use in the washroom included shower gel and hair wash which all smelled great and the body lotion was divine to use and curl up in the inviting dressing gown provided by the hotel while using the mini bar services which included local products, which I thought was a splendid idea.The bed was double-sized with crisp linen sheets to welcome you to bed and while lying on the bed you could still see the great views of the park! As the moon shoon through the window, the view of the Hotel and grounds was stunning to see while drinking a glass of champagne in my bath robe!
There was a television of standard size in my room with the usual expected channels and a DVD player (due to licences the hotel cannot provide DVDs so remember to take your favorite film!). The hotel also has the want of all travellers – free wi-fi!
I had a royally good time at Hotel du Vin and I fell in love with the fascinating ‘old style’ hotel lift – try it, it’s quite an experience! The General Manager Nikki Dorkings was helpful and lovely and made my stay one never to forget.
I would love to return to the Hotel du Vin in the Spring to walk in the gardens and see the vineyard in its full glory. So much to see and so much to do in Royal Tunbridge Wells with the best gem being the Hotel du Vin.
