Heavenly Winchcombe Farm Holidays

by Lorna Oakley

Imagine waking up to birdsong, swaddled in heavenly crisp white bedding, tip-toeing out of bed in your fluffy white robe just to open the doors that open out to lush green fields. As I type this, I’m sitting at my desk at home; daydreaming of our second night’s stay at Winchcombe Farm watching snowflakes settling on the fence posts outside the door of the beautiful lodge we stayed in, sipping peppermint tea and eating freshly baked Victoria sponge cake for breakfast, our biggest decision of the morning was to brave the unexpected flurry of snow and relax in the hot tub or to make a hearty breakfast in the kitchen (more about that kitchen later).

A heavenly break from the daily grind

We stayed in Jess’s Tree Bach, it’s the newest of Winchcombe’s lodges, this modern and stylish rural retreat is perfect for that romantic getaway or a family break alongside their five other lodges. Nestled in a tranquil woodland in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, overlooking rolling countryside, it is the perfect haven for those in search of rest and relaxation, our stay was over two nights and we were lucky to experience what felt like multiple seasons in 48 hours.

Checking in at 4 pm was an absolute treat, we’d been left with the loveliest of welcome packages; including fresh milk, ground coffee, fruit and delicious cake. We were feeling rather ambitious and had packed barbeque food, having seen that guests can make the most of their idyllic surroundings and the private outdoor deck area that includes a charcoal pizza oven and barbeque.

So, with this in mind, we sat in the hot tub and watched a glorious sunset sipping on our drinks. On reflection, we should have ordered a grazing platter (as we were so relaxed; there was little intention to start the barbeque at that point). Guests can take advantage of a variety of on-site private dining experiences, as Winchcombe Farm has teamed up with Warwickshire’s Bramble Dining to add a touch of extra luxury.

The talented chef Richard Bramble has over 15 years’ of experience and uses only quality, locally sourced ingredients. The dining options range from the previously mentioned platters (vegetarian options also available) to private chefs who create exquisite meals for larger groups.

So, on that note we reminded ourselves should we visit again; take on board the relaxing nature of our surroundings and pre-order our food for our first night instead of a lazy box of chocolates in front of the TV. I may add though, we did walk said chocolates off in the unseasonal sunshine the next day on our drive to the surrounding villages.

On the subject of TV and all things technology, everything in this respect is covered including a 50” SMART TV, DVD and WIFI speaker, but this is done in a tasteful way so as not to take away from the surroundings with nature taking centre stage, the interiors however; I really need to talk you through this bit…

The main entrance is via the fully equipped modern kitchen, directly off the lounge. This comes complete with a range of integrated appliances and all the mod-cons you need for a truly relaxing stay. What you notice is though, is the thought applied to each room, from the Joseph & Joseph kitchen accessories to The White Company scented bathroom, the personal and stylish touch reaches every part of your stay.

The contemporary bathroom boasts a huge walk-in power shower, complimentary toiletries and fluffy towels. If a bath is more your thing, how do two sound? In the master bedroom, there are two massive baths teamed with either the smart TV for watching movies or my favourite idea is gazing at the stars via the electric skylight in the main bedroom.

Our second night wasn’t such a lazy one, we chose to eat out, however; we could’ve quite easily spent a second night in. If you choose to stay multiple nights (which I strongly suggest) Glo Pamper will turn your cabin into a spa for two, three or even four hours with their ‘Spa to you’ packages. This is perfect if you are looking to share some relaxing treatments with a loved one, celebrate an anniversary or honeymoon or simply want to indulge in your very own two hours of pampering.

Which brings me round to the last morning, waking up to the soft thud of snow on the skylight and white fields… It didn’t last long, but our stay gave us sunsets, sunshine, snow and the loveliest feeling knowing we were totally relaxed.
