A Luxurious stay at Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski

by Lady Charlotte Lynham

The Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski, a hallmark of luxury situated in the picturesque surroundings of St. Moritz, offered a lavish retreat that was nothing short of extraordinary. As I arrived, the grandeur of the hotel’s architecture immediately captured my attention. The elegant façade, adorned with intricate details, hinted at the opulence that lay within. I stepped inside, greeted by a warm atmosphere that blended traditional Alpine charm with modern sophistication.

My accommodation, the Superior Double Room, was a sanctuary of comfort despite being a little dated in style. The spacious layout featured plush furnishings, a sumptuous king-sized bed, and large windows that provided a stunning view of the snow-capped mountains. Since my visit, Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski has renovated many of the rooms, so I cannot wait to return and experience the new decor.

Wellness at Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski

After settling in, I decided to explore the hotel’s renowned Alpine Spa. The complex was a haven of wellness, with an atmosphere that radiated serenity. I was particularly drawn to the sauna landscape, which showcased an array of steam rooms and saunas. Each room, infused with aromatic herbs and essential oils, offered a unique experience that catered to various wellness needs. I spent hours moving between the different saunas, allowing the heat to melt away the fatigue of travel, while the soothing scents enveloped me in a cocoon of calm.

Later in the day, I was treated to a muscular unwind massage with Sladana, my therapist. This is a signature treatment at the spa that promises to alleviate stress and tension. My skilled therapist worked wonders on my aching muscles, employing a combination of deep tissue techniques and gentle stretches. Each stroke seemed to untangle the knots of stress, leaving me in a state of blissful tranquillity.

Post-massage, I made my way back to the sauna landscape, where I continued my rejuvenation journey. The contrast of the heat against the cool air outside was invigorating, and I found myself lost in thought as I relaxed in the tranquil environment. The spa complex offered not only physical relaxation but also a mental escape; the views of the surrounding mountains added to the experience, making it feel as though I was part of a stunning painting.

Dining at Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski

After an exhilarating day at the Snow Polo, I returned to the Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski and embarked on a culinary journey at Ristorante Da Adriano. The ambience was warm and inviting, illuminated by soft lighting that accentuated the restaurant’s elegant décor. I settled into my seat, eager to indulge in a menu that promised authentic Italian flavours with a contemporary twist. The aroma of freshly baked bread wafted through the air, hinting at the delights to come.

As I perused the menu, I opted for a selection of dishes that showcased the finest ingredients. Each course was a masterpiece, artfully plated and bursting with flavour. The antipasti, a vibrant array of marinated vegetables and cured meats, set the tone for the evening. I savoured every bite, revelling in the balance of textures and tastes. Following this, the risotto, perfectly al dente and infused with saffron, transported me to the heart of Italy. The richness of the dish was complemented by a glass of exquisite wine, recommended by the attentive staff.

Later in my stay, after a day on the slopes of Corviglia, I found myself at Ca d’Oro, the hotel’s one Michelin-star restaurant. The dining room exuded sophistication, with subtle elegance in every detail. I was treated to the tasting menu, a culinary expedition that promised to delight the senses. Each course was a revelation, showcasing the culinary team’s creativity and commitment to excellence.

The first course, a delicate tartare of local fish, was a harmonious blend of freshness and flavour, setting the stage for the subsequent dishes. The highlight was undoubtedly the main course – a tender cut of lamb, accompanied by seasonal vegetables and an herb reduction that elevated the dish to new heights. Each bite was a testament to the chef’s artistry, leaving me in awe of the flavours that had led this restaurant to gain Michelin’s notoriety.

As the night drew to a close, I returned to my Superior Double Room, feeling utterly rejuvenated. The combination of luxurious accommodations, exceptional spa treatments, and delectable dining created an unforgettable experience. I reflected on my stay, grateful for the opportunity to unwind in such a magnificent location.
