Sensational Singapore; 6 reasons to stay at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel

by Christina Mitsi

The Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel is perfect for a short break in Singapore or as a stop-off on the way to a farther destination. Ideal for business, family stays or couples, the hotel boasts everything you would need for a comfortable stay in one of the world’s most vibrant cities. I spent 3 days at the Copthorne, which recently underwent a $30 million renovation, to explore the city by day and enjoy luxurious surroundings by night.

5* service in Singapore

The fabulous service starts the second you step out of your car at The Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel as my companion and I were warmly greeted by staff and taken to a most beautiful reception area with high ceilings and towering columns. We were quickly checked in by the lovely Maja and Kenneth who then showed us to our suite and let us know all the hotel had to offer and how we could access important things such as happy hour, the pool and the restaurants.

Luxurious suite overlooking Singapore

Our Premier Club Waterfront King room was 32 square metres of luxury. The beds were comfy, the bathroom was sparkling clean and full of all the toiletries we needed as well as having a bath and separate shower but there were lots of details that set this room apart from other hotels.

The view first of all is absolutely breathtaking, with views over the winding river all the way to the iconic Marina Bay Sands in the distance. There are wireless mobile phone chargers, a desk to catch up on work and what we loved most was the fresh drinking water fountain in the wall, a feature I have never seen before and now demand to be a staple in every hotel throughout the world!

Buffet restaurant at Grand Copthorne

We arrived too late for cocktail hour that first night (gutted!) but on arrival at the Food Capital Restaurant we were waited on by the very helpful Simon who provided me with an ice-cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc to toast to our arrival in a new city. I’ll be going into detail about the wonderful food offerings by the hotel and its partners in my next article. However, let me just say here that Food Capital has one of the best selections of fresh food I’ve ever seen in a buffet restaurant. The selection is huge but the quality and taste are just sublime. We were really impressed and went to bed absolutely full to bursting.

Facilities at the hotel worth experiencing

After a fantastic night’s sleep, we were up early in order to use the gym. Yes really, we were on a mission to counteract all the glorious food we would consume with workouts and thousands of steps per day. I will let you guess how long that lasted!

The gym has plenty of machines, towels, water and equipment and is conveniently located on the same floor as the pool and jacuzzi so you can have a refreshing dip after a hard workout. We headed for breakfast on the top floor club lounge as part of our Premier Experience and it is absolutely worth paying a bit more for this. You avoid the crowds at the buffet on the ground floor and get to enjoy the magnificent view out of the floor-to-ceiling windows. Service here was always exceptional and the chefs cooked whatever we wanted on demand to a fantastic standard, it was just wonderful.

How to explore Singapore from the hotel

One of the best things about the hotel is its location, situated away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Singapore you get to enjoy the view without the crowds however that doesn’t mean you aren’t able to access the city easily. It is less than 2 minutes walk to Havelock MRT Station where you can catch a train all over the city for next to nothing. We went directly to Marina Bay to see the Gardens by the Bay had lunch at the top of Marina Bay Sands and checked out the Art Science Museum.

SanSara

That evening we dined at the Grand Copthorne’s newest restaurant Sansara – an authentic North Indian Restaurant. It was immediately apparent how authentic it was upon our arrival because it was full of Indian families all enjoying the food! The staff here were so welcoming and eager for us to try all the chef’s specialities, and as lovers of good curry and spicy foods, we were more than willing to try it all! We had a fantastic evening with wonderful food and cocktails bringing our stay to a pleasant end.

Is Singapore a good stop-off point on the way to East Asia?

The Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel was the perfect place to stay while we stopped off in Singapore to adjust to the time zone on our journey on to Bali. We were able to explore the whole of the city from a luxurious and convenient location and return each evening to wonderful food and drinks and excellent service. Staff couldn’t have been more kind and helpful and the facilities were just faultless. Doesn’t really get much better than that does it?
