Easter Afternoon Tea from Conrad London St. James

by Lis-Marie Liden

It’s another weekend in lockdown, but this weekend I had the most lush Easter Afternoon Tea at Home set delivered from the 5 star luxury hotel Conrad London St. James. This set can be delivered straight to your door or picked up just in time for Easter, or why not have an afternoon tea in the park once we are allowed to mix. There is also an option of a specially curated box for children so they don’t have to miss out.

This box has so much to choose from! Me and my lovely neighbour didn’t know where to start, I always say start with some bubbles and take it from there. The afternoon tea comes with a choice of with or without Champagne, but I personally feel it should always be with, why not treat yourself? The eatable items come in a gorgeous box that also works as a cake stand keeping all the treats safe and on display, savouries and sandwiches alongside your cakes and pastries. The set also came with a choices of teas and we decided on the Organic Darjeeling, also known as The Champagne of Teas. It had a smooth taste and no need for milk which suits me perfectly. The teas on offer are from Hope & Glory, a British brand offering premium specialty organic teas.

It was as much a feast for my eyes as it was for my tastebuds. Such a beautiful set up with cute macaroons, beautiful tartlets and even a bouquet of beautiful Daffodils on the side. I will give you mine and my neighbours favourites and let you venture into the rest once you order your own, I highly recommend that you do . . .

Let’s get into the tastiness. I always love scones for my afternoon teas, is it really an afternoon tea without them? These were something special. The fruit Scone was amazing and let’s not forget to add the Clotted cream and strawberry compote (which way round is up to you).

My top choice of Sandwiches must be the Oak Smoked Scottish Salmon with cream cheese, lemon and chive on wholemeal bread or the Pickled Cucumber with soft herbs, lemon scented cream cheese on wholemeal bread, both of these combinations were so fresh and went perfectly with the Pommery Brut Royal Champagne NV. The style at Pommery is light and delicate with the non-vintage Brut Royal being 35% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 30% Pinot Meunier, so this was just the perfect light wine to compliment the delicate tastes of the sandwiches.

I do have a bit of a sweet tooth so reaching for the pastries wasn’t hard, the Bunny Macaroon was almost too cute to eat, but I ate it anyway, it had gorgeous strawberry and elderflower inside. My lovely neighbour favoured the Caramelised red onion tartlet with smoked bacon and sun-dried tomato but I could tell she also liked the Hereford Roast Sirloin Beef with horseradish cream on granary bread because the went down fast. And for her sweet tooth she loved the Jivara Chocolate and passionfruit tartlet, I tried it as well and she was not wrong, it’s absolutely lovely, you cannot go wrong with the combination of chocolate and passionfruit, with the dark bitter chocolate cutting through the sweet tartness of the passionfruit.

There is definitely something for everyone in the selection. It is easy set up which helps at lot; I live in a very small apartment but this was a perfect fit for my patio and made for a wonderful afternoon treat for us two. It came with a menu so that we knew what each item was and this made it feel like we were somewhat getting the hotel afternoon tea experience as you tried and tested each one against the menu.

The delivery was easy and in an hour slot of your choice, the lovely woman delivering had the biggest smile and made me feel really special. But even before this I had a call from a gentleman at the hotel making sure I was informed it was on its way so I was ready, thats 5 star service right there. After all you don’t want to open the door in hair rollers and teddy bear slippers.

It all felt very special and luxurious, especially during this time when we are unable to go out for our Easter celebrations and much loved afternoon teas. This really made it so special and gave me a reason to put on my best Spring dress, style my hair and “pretend” I was living it up over cakes and champagne, even if it was only in my own back garden. Right, now I have told you how wonderful this afternoon tea was and why you must order one, I’m going to eats some more of the small and super tasty chocolate eggs that I also received . . . they’re calling me.

Happy Easter!

The Easter Afternoon Tea box can be delivered within a 6-mile radius of the Westminster-located hotel, and can also be pre-ordered and collected. St James’ Park is just a five-minute walk away, and would make a delightful location for the tea to be enjoyed. The afternoon tea is priced at £55.00 for two people or £99.00 for two if you would like to include a bottle of Pommery Champagne. The price includes free 3-mile delivery from Westminster (additional delivery fee applies for deliveries up to 6 miles). The tea can also be pre-ordered and collected from the hotel.
