Autoimmune Disease, Potyque CBD and Me

by Yemi Edwards

I suffer from Polyglandular Autoimmune Syndrome Type 3. This syndrome is rare and still not widely understood. For about 10 years I had no idea why I experienced certain pains, or was sometimes exhausted. It took many years to get the doctors to help me and in all honesty, we are still unsure what PAS is, why my body does what it does, and how to live with PAS Type 3.

PAS-T3 is basically an umbrella filled with numerous autoimmune diseases. These diseases come and go with varied time frames. Thyroid disease, Pernicious Anemia, and Alopecia are a few that you may have heard of, CFS is another well known AI disease. Over the years I have suffered numerous diseases which have left me to make life changing decisions based on severity. For instance my immune system attacked my reproductive system, this led to having an emergency hysterectomy after receiving 3 blood transfusions and being diagnosed with a weak heart. Chronic pain is top of the list of symptoms, this requires a ridiculous amount of pain relief. I take a lot of Opioids and Analgesics. They don’t cure, but they make parts of the day feel better. I have always tried to use alternative therapy for my condition. I have had treatments like acupuncture to hypnotherapy and a combination of herbal remedies. I decided to try out the CBD oil route and was given Potyque CBD oils to see what difference they could make in my life.CBD is cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is the chemical from the Cannabis sativa plant, also known as marijuana or hemp. CBD is extracted from the plant and combined with an oil, but with a minuscule amount of THC, the compound that makes you “high”. This makes it legal. CBD oil has been known to help with mental stresses, anxiety and low mood. It is also known to help relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Other benefits include increased libido and relieving menopausal related symptoms and tummy aliments. My condition consists of all of the above, so introducing CBD oil seemed to be the next best thing to explore for my well being. I have vaped with CBD oil before and from memory I did feel some effects immediately. Though, I also had the CBD mixed with a nicotine salt. This gave a completely different effect to the type of CBD oil used for this review.

Firstly CBD oils are all very different. The quality and purity of the extract is very important. I can openly admit that I have no record of where the vaped oil came from other than word of mouth. With Potyque I was given a history, there was a sense of premium about the brand. I had a different mindset this time around as I was on the hunt to take control of my issues. I felt a trust that I could trace back to Potyque. This will be important later on.

I started with the strength of 5%. The bottle is filled with 10ml of oil and the directions are to place 2 to 3 drops of oil under the tongue for 90 seconds then swallow. This is to be done 3 times a day. The taste would be described as woody or earthy and it is carried in MCT oil. MCT oil is a supplement made from a type of fat called medium-chain triglycerides. MCT molecules are smaller than those in most of the fats you eat, this makes them easier to digest. You can absorb MCT in your bloodstream quickly. What does this mean? The MCT helps the body absorb the CBD much more efficiently. So, I started my regime of 2-3 drops, 3 times a day for a week. I noticed I was a bit more relaxed amongst the chaos in my household. I continued with this for a few more weeks. The symptoms I had during that period were chronic pain, IBD (this will soon be properly diagnosed, which I will let you know soon) and low mood plus anxiety. After a while, I noticed that I was still struggling with my pain management and my tummy was not under any influence of the CBD oil. I felt like the mood kind of plateaued. The stress levels were very high in my household as we were dealing with family issues so unfortunately the stress was unavoidable.  I contemplated how I would write this review because I honestly felt something at first, but my pain and tummy were nowhere near feeling any better even after about a month of the CBD oil.

I sent a DM to the owner of Potyque. I explained the above and this is where Potyque showed me the trust I spoke of. Michelle Rust has a background in pharmaceuticals and also uses her products for herself and her family. This really impressed me and the icing on the cake was that even though I felt dissatisfied with the effects on my crooked body, Michelle made me feel like my health was as important to her as it was to me.

After numerous DMs back and forth with Michelle learning more about my medical history, we decided to continue the treatment but with a higher dose. I explained to her that I had a high dose while vaping, but that’s where I learned that not all CBD comes with reputable quality. Michelle insisted I go ahead and increase the dose strength. We agreed to give it another 2-4 weeks and see what difference it would have. She also mentioned using the journal available on the website to keep track of changes.Let’s go back a bit, I mentioned that I was diagnosed with IBD, Inflammatory Bowel Disease. However after months of excruciating pain and extreme weight loss it turned out that the correct diagnosis was Chronic Pancreatitis. So to be fair to Potyque, enzyme replacement was pretty much the only way for me at that time, to get relief and to be able to eat and leave the house. That is the physical outcome, but from a mental aspect, the higher dose strength of CBD really did make a huge improvement.

The family stress we were experiencing at home involved low mood from a member, with this person on the low dose strength and myself on a higher one, we managed to feel a faster lift of mood daily. I also have an adult daughter who suffers from CFS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and inflamed knees. I did have 3 bottles at home, and I soon discovered that one had been relocated. She has taken the bottle back home with her and continues to use it for her well being.

I have recently had another autoimmune syndrome symptom called Idiopathic Urticaria. This is an allergic style of hives and rashes all over the body and also swelling of lips and tongue. We are still yet to find a treatment for this very itchy and sore outbreak. I am taking combinations of antihistamines and steroids. The steroids affect the pancreas enzymes so I am back in another spell of finding a way to cope with the new problem. I actually was close to tears one day, scratching to almost breaking skin from the excessive itching that I was being subjected to and a thought crossed my mind. I decided to take my CBD oil and drop a few drops directly onto the red inflamed spots on my leg. I noticed within seconds the pain and irritation ceased. I couldn’t believe it. After a few hours the stinging and itching started again so I defeatedly came to the conclusion that I was just going to have to cope until someone can find a reliable pain relief. Because it is autoimmune related it’s not like I can stop eating something or change bed materials. My immune system was/is just angry, maybe because my pancreas was working again. Anyway a few days later I put a couple of drops of the CBD oil on a patch again, it calmed it again, but I had also had three different types of antihistamines in my body. I let Michelle know what I had done, we kind of agreed that it’s a nice possibility that it helped. But I guess I HAD been taking a cocktail of other relief and with the time frame it could have been a coincidence.

Today I decided it was time to write my review for Potyque. I had promised to do so a few weeks ago but my life has been so hectic. Last night I had one of the worst flare ups of Idiopathic Urticaria, I was so frustrated and crying at the state of my legs. It looked like I had boils up and down my legs, it was horrible to look at and the stinging sensation was on torturous levels. Overnight I had taken my maximum amount of antihistamines so I had nothing else left to help me with the pain relief from the fire I felt all over my legs. The only thing I could think of was to grab my bottle of CBD oil and literally squirt as much as I could sacrifice on my legs. There are only around 200 drops in the bottle so I wanted to make sure I didn’t use the whole thing and regret this drastic decision I had made. I do not tell a lie, within a second, all those hours of no sleep and pain and stinging and those horrible boil looking marks on my legs just disappeared.

So, I leave it there. CBD oil has many ways it can help people, with me, it was with mental health and this outbreak of autoimmune hives. I feel so confident that I will continue to find other ways it can help my complicated body. I also know that I can trust Potyque to help me through my journey and they are right there making sure I am happy with their range of CBD oils.
