Obviously none of us are travelling to tropical getaways anytime soon, so I had the wonderful task of testing three luxury tan brands over a month. I’m a typical mix of my parents, my mother; fair hair, fair skin, blue eyes. My father however is olive skinned with almost black hair . . . so guess who got the pale skin dark hair combo? Yup, yours truly. I rocked the gothic chic look long before anyone else. So, as you can imagine, years of fake tan have meant I’m kind of OK brandishing a tanning mitt.
First up . . . Lusso Tan
As a result of their 15+ years experience in the tanning industry, the Lusso Tan team know the importance of looking after your skin. It is for this reason that none of the products in the Lusso Tan range contain parabens or any other nasty chemicals. Every single product is organic, vegan and cruelty free.
I chose the medium tan. As of late I’ve been used to using tanning mousses so this lotion was a nice change, it felt a little bit more moisturising for that reason if I’m honest. It was an even coverage, smell was ok and it lasted a good 4ish days, however their Bath Bomb in my opinion needs a massive shoutout.
Like all the Lusso Tan products, the Bath Bomb, has been designed to repair and protect the skin. Avocado Oil is rich in Vitamin E and fatty acids excellent for moisturising, Lemon Essential Oil has a high vitamin content that boosts immunity and rejuvenates dull complexions. It also contains Witch Hazel & Jojoba Oil, both have anti-inflammatory properties to reduce redness and keep the skin calm and comfortable. You literally relax in a bath filled with essential oil infused water and watch your tan dissolve before your eyes, genuis!
Up Second . . . Madame LaLa
An exclusive indie beauty brand and self-tanning celebrity favourite inspired by Los Angeles. Madame LaLa is a combination of Coco Water and hydrating skincare benefits infused into a beachy coconut fragrance work to bronze, smooth and slim whilst emulating a quintessential ‘LA tan’ with style. Celeb fans include…Olivia Palermo, Blake Lively, Gigi Hadid and Vanessa Hudgens.
Founded by American-Brit Nicole Dash Jones, a British born beauty entrepreneur and artist/songwriter, who has spent a fair bit of time living in LA. Madame LA LA is the first beauty brand to launch a DD self tan to recognise the benefits of Coco Water within skincare. The range is a ‘dynamic do-all’ face and body tan, infused with a Hollywood must have Coco Water.
“The hydrating and detoxing self tan mousse combines many natural anti-ageing ingredients such as Aloe, Green Tea and Vitamin E to ensure a long lasting natural tan and glowing skin that is well cared for. Madame LA LA Tan provides an instant year-round LA look that develops quickly and fades naturally”.
It was easy to apply and lived up to its description. I used the light one, and combined with their facial serum it was easy to use and the colour was amazing. It lasted well and the smell was delicious, made me think I was on holiday by the pool with the scent of tropical coconuts.
Lastly, number three, Utan.
I used the Calendula Tanning Water from Utan. This fresh Calendula infused tanning water caters to everyone who is looking for a natural healthy facial tan all year round. A twist on Utan’s multi-award-winning original tanning water to naturally tan and hydrate the skin through stubble, makeup or skincare at any point during the day or night. Fast-drying and lightweight, this buildable tan will develop in 4 hours. There is also no need to wash hands which makes it perfect for use on the go. This tan is a clear colourless formula so stain-free and it can be used to gradually build up the right level of colour.
What I love about the ethos behind this product is the fact that it is actually the world’s first gender neutral tan. This was also the easiest tan to use I would say out of all the of the tans, the fact that you don’t need to wash your hands is an absolute bonus.
