Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort; a serene hideaway in Bali

by Lady Charlotte Lynham

Atop the stunning cliffs of Uluwatu, Anantara Uluwatu Bali offered an experience that was nothing short of magical. My stay in the luxurious Ocean View Suite was a journey into a world of breathtaking vistas and unparalleled comfort. The suite, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, provided panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, casting an ethereal glow over the elegant décor. It was a haven where modern luxury met traditional Balinese charm, and I felt an immediate connection to the beauty surrounding me.

Upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed by the Sri and escorted to my suite. The gentle breeze carried the scent of frangipani, and the sound of waves crashing against the cliffs created a serene ambience. I settled into my suite, marvelling at the plush furnishings, the spacious layout, and the private balcony that beckoned me to step outside. As I sipped on a welcome drink, I could not help but feel that I had entered a slice of paradise.

Food and Drink at Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort

One of the highlights of my stay was dining at 360 Rooftop, where I was served by the delightful Mariani and Andre. Their hospitality was exceptional, and they took the time to guide me through a tasting of local wines that perfectly complemented the exquisite dishes on offer. The panoramic views from the rooftop restaurant were mesmerizing, especially as the sun began to set, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. Each sip of wine transported me deeper into the flavours of Bali, and I felt a profound appreciation for the region’s rich culinary heritage.

The menu at 360 Rooftop featured a blend of traditional Balinese and contemporary cuisine, making it a true gastronomic delight. I savoured dishes that showcased fresh local ingredients, each plate meticulously presented and bursting with flavour. The experience was not just about the food but also about the stories behind each dish, as Mariani and Andre shared insights into the culinary traditions of Bali.

For lunch, I ventured to the Botol Biru Bar and Grill, where the atmosphere was vibrant and inviting. The menu offered a diverse selection of grilled delights and fresh seafood, and I indulged in a sumptuous pizza while enjoying the ocean breeze. The staff’s attentiveness made the dining experience even more enjoyable, and I appreciated the seamless blend of relaxation and fine dining.

As the day progressed, I made my way to the infinity pool, which seemed to stretch endlessly into the horizon. The happy hour was a splendid affair, filled with laughter, clinking glasses, and the soothing sounds of water. I enjoyed refreshing cocktails such as a Frozen Daquri and a Mango Margarita.

Another experience at Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort is the Anantara Spa, a serene escape from the bustling world outside. The moment I stepped into the tranquil space, I was enveloped by the soothing sounds of traditional Balinese music and the intoxicating aroma of incense wafting through the air. It felt like entering a sanctuary, where time slowed down and every worry faded into the background.

My journey began with an Authentic Balinese Massage, a 60-minute treatment that promised to draw on age-old healing practices. I was greeted by my therapist, Asti, whose warm smile and calming presence instantly put me at ease. As I settled onto the massage table, I noticed the floral oils she prepared, each scent more enchanting than the last. I chose the Eastern Harmony blend, known for its restorative properties.

Asti’s skilled hands began to knead the fragrant oil into my skin, applying firm palm pressure that worked wonders on the tension lodged in my muscles. Each stroke seemed to dissolve the stress I had accumulated, while the rhythmic music created a backdrop that further lulled my senses. I thought about how this ancient practice had been passed down through generations, a testament to the Balinese dedication to well-being and healing.

The massage was not only about relaxation; it was a deeply immersive experience that improved my blood circulation and left me feeling rejuvenated. Asti’s expertise shone through as she seamlessly transitioned between techniques, each one tailored to my body’s needs. I let myself drift away, surrendering to the moment while the fragrant oils and gentle melodies enveloped me.

As my treatment drew to a close, I was invited to partake in an authentic water blessing ritual. This sacred ceremony, rich in meaning, felt like a beautiful conclusion to my spa experience. Standing by a small altar adorned with vibrant flowers and offerings, I closed my eyes as the cool water was sprinkled over my head, symbolizing purification and renewal. It was a fitting end to a journey of self-care and healing, and I emerged from the spa feeling like a new person.

Our last experience, before we checked out and moved on to our next hotel, was a unique Balinese offering class with Yuni. We learnt about the culture and religion of Bali including the three gods, and how to make an offering and decoration for oddering. Yuni then took us to the temple to show us the process of making an offering and blessed us. This was such a beautiful and meaningful end to our stay at Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort, a cherished memory that will stay with me forever.
