Located along the tranquil banks of the Thu Bon River, the Anantara Hoi An Resort offered an enchanting escape that I had long anticipated having heard so much about this unique and culturally rich location. Upon arrival from Danang, we were greeted at the front desk by the warm smiles of Van, the front-of-house manager, and Huy, their hospitality set the tone for what would become a memorable stay.

After the swift check-in process, we made our way to our Deluxe River View Suite, which offered breathtaking views of the Thu Bon River. The room was elegantly adorned, creating a tranquil atmosphere that instantly put me at ease. Outside I could hear the gentle rustle of leaves and the soft lapping of the water, providing a perfect soundtrack to our escape.

Each morning began with the sun casting golden rays over the water, inviting me to enjoy my morning coffee on the balcony. The luxurious amenities of the suite made every moment indulgent, from the plush bedding to the stunning bathroom with its walk-in wet room. We spent many leisurely afternoons exploring the resort’s lush gardens and relaxing by the pool which was easily accessible from our suite.

Wellness at Anantara Hoi An Resort

One of the highlights of my stay was a deep tissue massage at the resort’s luxurious spa. The experience began with a refreshing foot wash using lime and salt, which prepared me for the indulgent treatment that followed. Uyen, my therapist, utilised classic Swedish techniques with coconut oil, creating a vigorous yet relaxing remedy.

As her skilled hands worked deeply into my muscles, I felt the tension and aches dissipate, replaced by a profound sense of relaxation. This treatment not only improved my flexibility but also relieved the soreness that had been plaguing me. The attention to detail and the tranquil atmosphere of the spa made it an unforgettable experience.

Dining at Anantara Hoi An Resort

Dining at the Anantara was nothing short of exceptional. We were fortunate to have Vi as our waitress at the Hoi An Riverside restaurant, where culinary delights awaited. Each dish was a celebration of local flavours and ingredients. We began our meal with a vibrant Soft Shell crab green mango salad, bursting with freshness from the mint and coriander. The king crab deep-fried spring rolls were a highlight as well; their crispy exterior paired beautifully with a sweet and sour sauce.

Next, we savoured the beef in betel leaf, served with peanut and sweet and sour sauces, which was utterly delicious. The grilled squid, accompanied by an assortment of fresh vegetables, was not only healthy but also artfully presented on a hot stone, adding an element of excitement to the dining experience.

For dessert, we indulged in a rich chocolate cup filled with chestnut cream and the uniquely flavoured pandan crème brûlée, served with a delightful cookie and coconut ice cream. Each bite was a testament to the culinary artistry present at the Anantara.

Exploring Hoi An and beyond from Anantara Hoi An Resort

To further immerse ourselves in the local culture, we embarked on a street food-tasting tour in the Old Town. Guided by the ever-enthusiastic Phuoc, affectionately known as Mr. Happy, we wandered through the lively streets and alleys, sampling delicacies from family-run stalls that had been around for generations. The four-hour experience was a feast for the senses, and we began our adventure at a quaint coffee shop, where we enjoyed a refreshing coconut coffee while jotting down notes to capture the essence of our journey.

Our favourite stop was undoubtedly the family-run street café, Bun Ba Nghia, where we savoured a delectable beef and pork noodle soup. The rich flavours and comforting warmth of the dish encapsulated the heart of Vietnamese cuisine. As we strolled through the vibrant streets, I felt a connection to the local culture, enriched by the stories and flavours that had been passed down through generations.

We also organised a private tour of My Son, the ancient capital of the Champa Kingdom, which was a captivating journey into history. Just a 70-minute drive south of the Anantara Hoi An Resort, this UNESCO World Heritage Site greeted us with its majestic Hindu temples; remnants of a civilisation that thrived during one of Southeast Asia’s most significant periods. As I wandered through the complex, I was entranced by the intricate carvings and architectural prowess of the Cham people.

The highlight of the visit was a traditional Champa dance performance, a vibrant display of skill and artistry that captured the essence of this ancient city. The tour was thoughtfully organised, including entrance tickets, cold water, and refreshing towels. As I departed, I felt enriched by the experience, having connected with a lesser-known yet profoundly important chapter of Vietnam’s heritage.

Anantara Hoi An

As I reflected on my time at Anantara Hoi An, I felt a sense of gratitude for the experiences that unfolded during my stay. The combination of luxurious accommodations, rejuvenating spa treatments, and exquisite dining options created a perfect harmony that left me longing to return. Each moment spent at the resort deepened my appreciation for the beauty and richness of Hoi An, making it a destination that would forever hold a special place in my heart.
