Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi in the dynamic city of Tokyo

by Lady Charlotte Lynham

Having never been to Japan, my stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Otemachi was nothing short of extraordinary as my first taste of Toyko. Located in the vibrant financial district of Tokyo, this hotel boasts breathtaking views of the Tokyo Imperial Palace. Seamlessly combining contemporary elegance with traditional Japanese design, Four Seasons Hotel Otemachi is the perfect choice for luxury-seeking travellers in Tokyo.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Nene, the hotel’s warm and welcoming staff member, who guided us through the check-in process with grace and efficiency. Once we reached our Deluxe Room, which had been arranged as a twin with two queen-sized beds, I felt a wave of comfort wash over me after a long journey from the UK with Emirates. The room offered an impressive view of the Imperial Garden, and the welcome sake provided a delightful touch, setting the tone for a truly memorable stay.

After unpacking and refreshing we dined at Pigneto, the hotel’s Italian restaurant, where we were served by the attentive Haruto Amuro. The evening began with a glass of Ruinart, a choice that perfectly complemented the culinary delights that followed. The Tuna Carpaccio arrived first, presenting meaty pieces that melted in my mouth. The Calamari served in a generous portion, was both tender and flavorful, further whetting our appetite for the main courses.

The wood-fired Margarita Pizza and the Diavolo Pizza, a special creation by Chef Alessandro, took the evening to new heights. The Diavolo Pizza, with its paprika cream base, was nothing short of epic. I would confidently place it among the top five pizzas I had ever tasted. Paired with Whispering Angel rosé, the meal felt like a celebration of Italian flavours that lingered long after the last bite and made for the perfect first evening in Toyko.

The following day, our adventure took us to the Tokyo National Museum, where we marvelled at the intricate artefacts that told the story of Japan’s rich history. The exhibits, showcasing everything from ancient samurai armour to delicate ceramics, left us inspired and eager to experience more of the culture. We then strolled through Ueno Park, soaking in the serene atmosphere juxtaposed against the urban backdrop. As the sun began to set, we felt the anticipation of an exquisite evening ahead.

After a full day of exploring the vibrant streets of Tokyo, we decided it was time to unwind at the Four Seasons Otemachi Spa. The spa exuded a refined elegance, with soft lighting and calming scents that promised rejuvenation. We changed into comfortable robes and explored the water and heat facilities designed to enhance our journey of well-being. The steam rooms offered a soothing escape, where the warmth seemed to melt away the stress of the day.

After indulging in the heat and water, I was ready for my treatment with Maria, the skilled spa therapist. I chose the Yakusugi massage, inspired by the ancient cedar trees of Yakushima. Maria’s hands were firm yet gentle, expertly working through knots and tensions accumulated from the day’s adventures. The massage was more than just a physical treatment; it transported me to a state of deep relaxation, where the outside world faded away. As Maria continued her work, I found myself drifting into a serene state, where time felt as if it had paused. The natural aromas of essential oils filled the air, enhancing the experience.

After an exceptional experience in the spa, we had the pleasure of dining at est, another superb restaurant within the hotel that has a Michelin Star. The atmosphere was vibrant yet intimate, and the menu offered an array of dishes that highlighted seasonal ingredients in a beautiful setting high above the streets of Toyko.

After dinner, we made our way to Virtù, which is recognized as one of the Top 50 bars in Asia. The ambience was chic and sophisticated, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. We embarked on a tasting masterclass led by Ramesh, the senior bar supervisor. He guided us through a selection of innovative cocktails, sharing his expertise and passion for mixology. Each sip revealed layers of flavour, and the experience was as much about the story behind each drink as it was about the drinks themselves.

Throughout my stay at the Four Seasons Otemachi, I was continually impressed by the attention to detail and the commitment to excellence. Whether it was the stunning views from my room, the exquisite dining experiences, the expert cocktail crafting, or the beautiful tranquil spa, every element contributed to a sense of indulgence and luxury.

As I reflect on my time in Tokyo, I realise that the Four Seasons Hotel Otemachi provided more than just a place to stay; it offered a sanctuary of comfort and an exploration of cultural delights that I will cherish for years to come.
