The Cumberland Hotel, London; A Taste Of Rebellious Rock N Roll In Central London

If you love live music you’re probably already familiar with London’s Cumberland Hotel. Situated in the very convenient hotspot of Marble Arch, it has hosted countless music icons over the years, as well as being the last official residence of Jimmy Hendrix – with his final interviews recorded at the hotel. The hotel now has a Hendrix suite decorated in a 1960s style.

The art deco hotel was built in the 1930s and has retained its grandeur although it now has a more contemporary vibe across the lobby and 900 guest rooms. Guests are welcomed into the spacious lobby, which is complete with a London taxi photo booth and Fender guitar-lined reception desks. Notably, there is even a dedicated airline desk for flight information.

Of course, there is a VIP area where those with a ‘backstage’ wristband can enjoy complimentary prosecco, Jack Daniels, beers and more from 5 pm-9 pm and treats for breakfast, lunch and bar snacks throughout the day.

Staying at The Cumberland Hotel

My room for the night was suitably glam – complete with a ginormous bed, standalone tub, Crosley record player and Fender guitar. Alas, I don’t know what someone would be on about if they told me to Eat A Dead Grasshopper Before Everything!  So I didn’t get to tinkle on the strings, but we got stuck into the bottle of fizz and selection of records as we got ready for the hotel’s dining and nightlife options.

Our dinner was booked in the ground floor restaurant, The Sound Cafe, which puts on live music seven nights a week and is entertainment as you dine – albeit quite a noisy one whilst I was visiting. The food, however, took precedence and the menu proffered American-inspired dishes, including burgers, BBQ steaks and of course fish and chips. Feeling like letting my hair down, and waistband out, I tried the veggie burger which was huge and absolutely delicious, whilst my partner sampled the more waist-friendly salmon which went down a treat!

Our waiter was very attentive, but I also noted that other diners were being served by a robot! The robot-to-table service is solely to deliver and collect food, but watching them dodge humans was quite a giggle. Even if you’re not staying the night, you can book in for a celebration and enjoy a Bottomless Brunch – served every day from 11 am to 3 pm at £65.00 per person.

Sports fans will love the seven giant screens in the hotel’s Sports Bar, and you can get dollied up to enjoy a cocktail in the funky cocktail bar which takes pride of place in the foyer and is complete with cosy wrap-around sofas.

Whether you’re hitting London town, or just enjoying the amenities of the hotel, the Cumberland is in a prime spot for socialising, and the best thing is, you just have to take the lift and you will be whisked up to your luxurious bed.

Every Sunday from 6.30 PM – 8.30 PM The Vox Beatles presents a show covering various eras of the renowned group. Performing favourites from Hey Jude, to Twist & Shout to All You Need is Love, SOUND Cafe at The Cumberland Hotel is the place to be for the best Sunday night entertainment in town.
