Uplifting Cotton Club Mallorca

by Lorna Oakley

As a visitor to Mallorca for many summers with my family, that accumulated in over two decades of family vacations, morning swims, fresh food, boat trips and finding new, uplifting places every year.

Before the pandemic, there was a buzz about the biggest of the Balearics, but this year it has taken centre stage. On our recent visit, we had the good fortune to visit Cotton Club’s latest outpost in Costa de la Calma and take in part of the energy of the moment.

I visited the original Cotton Club in Ibiza back in 2019 and the same attention to detail is there. Christian, Merete and their team have created laid-back luxury living with a minimalist style scheme, providing outstanding service, and great food, and letting their surroundings do the talking.

Everything you need to know about this uplifting club

Like the Cotton Clubs in Ibiza and Zakynthos, Cotton Club Mallorca boasts an attractive location, situated on the Balearic island’s pristine Costa de la Calma, on a hillside above the spectacular Cala de Santa Ponça with stunning sea views. Based at Galatzo Hilton Mallorca it is less than a five-minute drive from the hugely popular beaches of Paguera, ten minutes from our favourite base, Andratx, and Mallorca’s capital city Palma and Palma de Mallorca Airport a short drive away.

Cotton Club seem to find the most beautiful locations and deliver an authentic, welcoming albeit exclusive atmosphere with a sense of place that makes guests feel at home and wanting to return, again and again. And they do, we were warmly welcomed by Jose at the entrance and shown to our table; secondly, by another guest who was none other than the award-winning, chef Rob Kirby, who informed us it was his second visit that week.

Cotton Club doesn’t have to shout; the style and quality speak in laidback whispers that create a lifestyle that we all want to have a taste of. Speaking of taste, the food is fresh and perfectly prepared; delicious as it is aesthetically pleasing. As you can imagine fish is a speciality, with their ‘raw bar’ the first section of the menu; this is extensive and tempting, with luxurious touches; with options such as caviar on your sushi and special orders including Blue Lobster or King Crab.

The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and the cocktails are delicious with a large selection of options unique to them or if Rose is your thing; they have their brand of Rose; bottled with the aesthetically pleasing logo on their labels (this goes back to one of my favourite parts of Cotton Lifestyle as a brand, the attention to detail).

In keeping with the island, Cotton Club have their take on Sangria, served in a jug and named after the Spanish and Portuguese word for “bleeding” because of its typical dark-red colour, Sangria has existed in various forms for over 2,000 years. Cotton Club naturally has its approach and recipe with a touch of champagne.

So, the perfect day was forming via Cotton Club and if you arrived there just after opening at 1 pm; in time for lunch, it’d be ever so rude to not spend a lazy afternoon by the pool. Seventy sunbeds are dotted around the pool, surrounded by swaying palms and lush green gardens, placed in such a way that you know it’d never feel crowded whilst integrating local design elements. Everything is thought of, everything is on brand and nothing disappoints.

Welcome Cotton Club Mallorca, you are an absolute asset to the island.
